A Halloween poem in less than 100 words (as told by a reluctant artist)

Draw a Monsterfor Homework
The assignment: Draw a monster for homework.
My best friend and neighbor Jess, smiles a smirk.
βHow hard can that be?β She mutters.
βDo you even know me?β I stutter.
Pencils and markers lined up for the job
I make careful shapes, but end up in a blob
A shadow of gray that wonβt go away
βWhatβs that?β I imagine Miss Rileyβs voice say.
So what if the corners are tattered and torn,
Itβs Halloween which means endless candy corn!
My blob monster drawing, messy shadow and all,
Hangs proudly with others, out in the hall!
Yeah, I’d have a heard time with this assignment, too. Great story! Good luck in the contest!

Thanks Gregory! Iβm famous for my stick figures, blob monsters, and one time I drew a hummingbird that looked more like a penguin. π

I like how the mc gets her priorities in order and realizes candy corn is all that matters, haha

Everyone can draw a monster – whether they know it, or not. Be sure to proudly hang it in the hall! =)

I am glad she didnΒ΄t bin the drawing or throw a fit π SheΒ΄s moved on to candy corn and perhaps a better drawing next time around π Good luck! I enjoyed your story.

Thank you! She needed to bring in her picture so the lesson could be part of the story. Everyone has things they are good at and things they need encouragement to believe in themselves. π

As someone who is totally drawing-challenged, I can totally relate to your MCs struggle! Glad she accepted her efforts and focused on the good stuff – candy corn! π Thanks so much for joining in the Halloweensie fun, Laura!

Susanna, thank YOU for hosting such a fun contest! My years of teaching and years of drawing stick figures and obese hummingbirds gave me plenty of inspiration. π
