I’m very happy to welcome Christine Evans to the blog today. We met two years ago as part of a picture book debut group. She also writes inspiring poetry and today she’s here to share her latest books to be released: WISH LIBRARY a new chapter book series! The words “chapter book” takes me back to my teaching years when a child’s glee-filled voice announced ‘I am reading chapter books!’ It’s an exciting milestone for any young reader.

What were you like at the age of your target audience?
I was (unsurprisingly) a bookworm! I was the kid reading at the end of my bed in the light from the hallway after lights-out. I was incredibly shy and had an imaginary friend (a dog named Watson).

What inspires you?
I am inspired by so much. I love Hamilton, poetry (Amanda Gorman, of course, and also Kate Baer and Maggie Smith), and (surprisingly as I don’t write them) romcoms.
What’s something you hope your readers take away from your books?
I hope kids see themselves in the characters in The Wish Library and can relate to their problems. But I also hope that they come away with the feeling that there is magic in our world if you know where to look for it.

What’s next for you?
I’m just finishing up book 3 in The Wish Library series which was so much fun to write. I have a couple of picture book manuscripts that I’m finishing up writing but time will tell if they get to become books!

The Wish Library sounds like such a wonderful series and anything that lets children know there’s magic and hope in the world if you look—amazing ❤️Thank you both for sharing another fantastic interview.

Thanks for reading, and it’s never too late! Chapter books make me smile because I love how happy children are when they proudly say, “I’m reading chapter books.” Anything about a child who loves reading makes my reading specialist heart happy! Good luck in the giveaway.
