Winner Announcement 5/18/23

Congratulations to winner Amy Benoit you won the 20 minute Zoom classroom visit with author-illustrator Marie Boyd, whose debut JUST A WORM was illustrated with quilling and told the story of a worm who wanted to prove he was more than ‘just a worm.’ Please email me at ljrwritenow @ gmail so that I can connect you with Marie.

Coming next week you’ll meet author-illustrator Bonnie Kelso and find out about the inspiration behind her debut Nudi Gill. She has several more picture books in the pipe line so you’ll get to hear about them too!

I’m excited to welcome two more authors in June that you won’t want to miss. Katey Howes is an award winning author and poet and Pamela Morgan is an award winning playwright sharing her debut picture book.

In case you missed it, I had big news to share this week too! The cover reveal for my next book, AN ACCIDENTAL HERO, A MOSTLY TRUE WOMBAT STORY, illustrated by Debbie Palen will be released by Eifrig Publishing February 13, 2024. https://lauraroettigerbooks.com/2023/05/16/cover-reveal-an-accidental-hero-a-mostly-true-wombat-story/

I'm a reading specialist and award winning educator from Chicago. While living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for nine years, I spent time hiking on the trails with my Goldendoodle Charlie and friends, writing, working in a literacy program at the Boulder Public Library, and mentoring writers and teachers. I love visiting schools. My books combine STEM and Kindness. "Aliana Reaches for the Moon" a picture book that draws inspiration from the moon and the curiosity of children, inviting children to be creative, explore, and experiment. "An Accidental Hero: A Mostly True Wombat Story" a picture book told in the form of a newscast which skillfully balances the serious subject of forest fires with compassion and humor to help children navigate this important topic through the real events of 2020. I moved to Northern New Jersey in 2025 and am working on new projects.
