Today I welcome author Amanda Davis who is celebrating her recent picture book MOONLIGHT MEMORIES, illustrated by Michelle Jing Chan. About a year ago, I reached out to Amanda knowing MOONLIGHT MEMORIES, was coming out in 2023 and I wanted to learn more. I discovered that this sweet story is inspired by her personal experience of losing her father and informed by her own experience with art. MOONLIGHT MEMORIES shares how art helps heal Piper when she loses a loved one and also how art can create hope.

Amanda is an author and an art teacher. Her poetry and illustrations have been featured in The Writers’ Loft Anthology: Friends & Anemones: Ocean Poems for Children and her first picture book, 30,000 STITCHES: THE INSPIRING STORY OF THE NATIONAL 9/11 FLAG, illustrated by Sally Wern Comport (2021)

She has generously offered to give away a signed copy of MOONLIGHT MEMORIES (US only) to one lucky winner. Comment on the blogpost to enter the giveaway.
What were you like at the age of you target audience?
I like to call myself an imaginator ☺ I was playful, creative, curious, and an observer.

What inspires you?
Nature, music, my family (including my doggie), creativity, people doing good deeds and sharing their stories, my life experiences.
What’s the one thing you hope your readers take away from your book?
To always look for the bright spots and to tell your story. You never know who can relate and who you may be helping or able to connect with by sharing your life experiences.
What’s next for you?
I have another nonfiction picture book that is unannounced, slated for publication in 2024, about the human-animal bond and hopefully an author-illustrator debut down the line!
