Today we are celebrating a book birthday! Hooray and yes, that means we can have cake for breakfast! Kim A. Larson is here to share her new book, GOAT’S BOAT WON’T FLOAT, illustrated by Gozde Eyce, and published by The Little Press. GOAT’S BOAT WON’T FLOAT is an early reader which was especially fun to read for me as a reading specialist. I love the engaging story but also the use of word patterns that are so important for readers to practice. It combines humor with some interesting information about fainting goats which I’m sure many young readers will find fascinating! Early readers need a variety of books to foster their love of reading and boost their confidence as readers which makes this book such a wonderful new addition to any classroom or home bookshelf.
Kim and her publisher have generously offered to give away one copy of GOAT’S BOAT WON’T FLOAT to one lucky winner (US addresses only.) Comment on this post to enter the giveaway!

What were you like at the age of your target audience?
I was a reluctant reader as a child, but I enjoyed school and learned easily. Growing up on a farm, I used my imagination all the time. I put on plays and had many wonderful adventures. I also liked to do crafty/creative things.

What inspires you?
I find inspiration everywhere. But what catches my attention the most is something I find funny. It’s often just a word or title or a silly T.V. character.
What’s the one thing you hope readers take away from you book?
My book was acquired as an early reader. So, I hope readers take away an increased confidence in their reading skills and desire to read. Reviews like this one touch my heart:
“Not only is this story amusing, it resonates so well with my beginner reader who also does not like loud noises! He *gets* Goat. And he loves that he can read this “big book” all by himself.”

What’s next for you?
My second book, DOLL TROUBLE , will be released in 2025 (Clavis Publishing). And my second son will be getting married next year. Other than that, I’ll be writing more picture books!
