Double Winner Announcements 10/10/24

Before I announce the winners, I’m sending hugs and strength to friends and family in Florida who are waking up to the aftermath of Milton. I know climate science has become a divisive issue like everything else, but science is based on facts and it shouldn’t take disasters like Helene and Milton or the fires we’ve been experiencing in the western portion of North America, the 2020 bushfires in New South Wales, Australia that inspired my book, AN ACCIDENTAL HERO: A MOSTLY TRUE WOMBAT STORY to get us to pay attention to what we can do about it.

For those of you who are in Florida, North Carolina, and other areas dealing with the aftermath of hurricane damage, let me say this is a marathon, not a sprint and give yourself grace. Self care is a luxury you shouldn’t forgo.

Congratulations to Jilanne Hoffman, you are the winner of a double giveaway from author Tina Shepardson, a copy of her new book THE SORRY SEEDS, illustrated by Bong Hyun Shin and also a classroom zoom visit! Thank you Tina for this generous giveaway! Jilanne, please email me your mailing address.

Congratulations also go to Robin Currie who is the winner of Kristi Mahoney’s “your choice” giveaway! Please let me know in an email if you’d like a copy of Kristi’s book ALPACAS MAKE TERRIBLE LIBRARIANS, illustrated by Chantelle and Burgen Thorne, a critique, or a virtual classroom visit. Email me at ljrwritenow @ gmail and include your mailing address if you choose a book.

I'm a reading specialist and award winning educator from Chicago. While living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for nine years, I spent time hiking on the trails with my Goldendoodle Charlie and friends, writing, working in a literacy program at the Boulder Public Library, and mentoring writers and teachers. I love visiting schools. My books combine STEM and Kindness. "Aliana Reaches for the Moon" a picture book that draws inspiration from the moon and the curiosity of children, inviting children to be creative, explore, and experiment. "An Accidental Hero: A Mostly True Wombat Story" a picture book told in the form of a newscast which skillfully balances the serious subject of forest fires with compassion and humor to help children navigate this important topic through the real events of 2020. I moved to Northern New Jersey in 2025 and am working on new projects.
