Today I’m excited to share my interview with Kirsti Call who has not one, but two books with a cow as a main character! If you know me, you know my love for cows began in childhood and has never wavered. MOOTILDA’S BAD MOOD, cowritten with Corey Rosen Schwartz and illustrated by Claudia Ranucci came out in September, 2020 and COW SAYS MEOW, illustrated by Brandon James Scott was released in March, 2021. Of course I’ve read them both, and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to choose a favorite, so my advice to you is go out and buy them both or get them from your library because why have one cow book when you can have two? Kirsti is generously giving one lucky winner a copy of COW SAYS MEOW, illustrated by Brandon James Scott. Comment on this blogpost to enter the giveaway!

What were you like at the age of your target audience?
I was an introverted kid who loved playing outside with my siblings, and reading. Always reading.

What inspires you?
Singing with my family inspires me, listening to good music, reading fabulous books, connecting with other people–anything that brings clarity, love, laughter and light into my life inspires me. My 15 year old daughter wrote a song for each of my cow books–these songs inspire me to write more books, so she’ll write more songs 🙂

What’s something you hope readers take away from your books?
When people read COW SAYS MEOW, I hope people remember it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to meow if you’re a cow. For MOOTILDA’S BAD MOOD, I hope kids say the refrain, “I’m in a bad mooooood!” and it makes them laugh.
What’s next for you?
I’m overflowing with ideas! I have a board book coming out in the summer of 2022, I’m working on a couple chapter books, a YA novel, and of course picture books!

I’ve read and loved Mootilda’s Bad Mood and can’t wait to read Cow Says Meow. The message behind this book is excellent for readers and will give them a fun way to learn more about themselves and others.

I recently attended a class by Kirsti and LOVED it! I would love to win this fun book to share with my own little humans. If I find a cow to read to, I would also do that. Watch out cows. I’m coming to read to you.

Hi Evelyn and thanks for visiting the blog and sharing this praise for Kirsti! I’m literally Lol-ing at your “Watch out cows. I’m coming to read to you.” You should look up, I’m sure it’s on YouTube, a video of a little girl reading to her cow. A good friend who knows my unbound love for cows sent it to me a while back.
Good luck in the giveaway and feel free to check out some of the other great interviews and giveaways!

I am wondering how you grew from being an introverted child to what appears to be an extroverted adult! Or maybe your “performance” persona is quite different from your actual self, LOL. Congrats on your double-header of cows! They’re great books!
