Tuesday Writing Post 1/2/2024 – what’s new?

I’m happy to turn the calendar page ushering in 2024 and a year of fresh writing and renewed commitment to some existing projects that have been on hold. My Tuesday interviews with authors and illustrators will continue a little less frequently but I’ll share posts highlighting book pairings celebrating books that I think work well together for school lessons or even home use to help engage children in higher order thinking.

Last year I committed to the goal of weekly posts of Wordless Wednesday (photography) and Haiku Saturday (my own photo and a traditional 5/7/5 haiku inspired by the photo) and I met that goal. Some weeks, it was a struggle but I rose to the challenge and I’m proud of that accomplishment. I’m planning to continue these but won’t adhere to the traditional haiku format every week. I hope you’ll weigh in on subject matter of both the photos and the poetry to let me know your preferences.

Last but certainly not least, the book I began writing four years ago this month, will be released six weeks from today! If you’d like to preorder a signed-by-the-author copy please support my local indie book store!

An Accidental Hero: A Mostly True Wombat Story

An Accidental Hero

I'm a reading specialist and award winning educator from Chicago. While living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for nine years, I spent time hiking on the trails with my Goldendoodle Charlie and friends, writing, working in a literacy program at the Boulder Public Library, and mentoring writers and teachers. I love visiting schools. My books combine STEM and Kindness. "Aliana Reaches for the Moon" a picture book that draws inspiration from the moon and the curiosity of children, inviting children to be creative, explore, and experiment. "An Accidental Hero: A Mostly True Wombat Story" a picture book told in the form of a newscast which skillfully balances the serious subject of forest fires with compassion and humor to help children navigate this important topic through the real events of 2020. I moved to Northern New Jersey in 2025 and am working on new projects.

    1. Thank you so much, Jill! The photography is usually easy because I take a lot of pictures but sometimes by the time I decide to write a haiku it’s late on a Friday. I’m so excited for you to read An Accidental Hero!
