Two Board Books and a Giveaway

Today I’m sharing two adorable board books written by author Elizabeth Suneby, both published by PJ Library. The first book released October 1st. SAY SHALOM ALL DAY LONG, illustrated by Elke Boschinger shows a little girl finding the different meanings of the word shalom by saying hello, goodbye, and peace to the world through the transitions of her day as she spends time with her grandmother, parents, and friends. It highlights the Jewish value of pausing to be grateful for the simple joys of life, an important concept for children of all faiths. This book has a gentle rhythm making it reread-able and a perfect bedtime book or whenever you need a calming transition.

The second book is CHALLAHBALOO! which will be available January 1, 2026. It features art by Adriana Hernández Bergstrom, a Cuban American artist who has perfectly matched the energetic, bouncy rhymes with vibrant images of three siblings as they joyfully braid, bake, and enjoy challah with family and friends. I should mention some of their friends include animals native to their South American home including a capybara, a toucan, an anteater, and a monkey which makes this book a fun way to learn a little bit about South American animals while sharing Jewish diversity.

You don’t have to be Jewish to love challah! Everyone loves challah!

You don’t have to be a child to love a book with a fun refrain that begs to be sung out: “Challah for me, Challah for you, Challah, Challah, Challahbaloo!” Everyone is going to want to join in!

Elizabeth has generously offered one book (US only) to be given away. To be entered for the giveaway, comment on the post and let us know which book you would like. SAY SHALOM ALL DAY LONG is available now and CHALLAHBALOO! will be available 1/1/2026.

I'm a reading specialist and award winning educator from Chicago. While living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for nine years, I spent time hiking on the trails with my Goldendoodle Charlie and friends, writing, working in a literacy program at the Boulder Public Library, and mentoring writers and teachers. I love visiting schools. My books combine STEM and Kindness. "Aliana Reaches for the Moon" a picture book that draws inspiration from the moon and the curiosity of children, inviting children to be creative, explore, and experiment. "An Accidental Hero: A Mostly True Wombat Story" a picture book told in the form of a newscast which skillfully balances the serious subject of forest fires with compassion and humor to help children navigate this important topic through the real events of 2020. I moved to Northern New Jersey in 2025 and am working on new projects.
